The EXCITING New Beauty Collaboration We Didn't Know We Needed

Over the last few years, the beauty industry has become a consistent conveyor belt of products. En masse, loads of new items flood our feeds daily, making it hard for even the most dedicated makeup lover feel a bit overwhelmed. In spite of this, finding releases that all shades of women can actually try and wear comfortably is still a challenge. As a matter of fact, the more products there are, the harder I’ve found it to sift through and find what really works for me.

Enter Black beauty influencers and vloggers, who dedicate their time to trying these things for us and giving us reviews and thoughts on these products. Many black women find the presence of such women helpful, because now we don’t have to stand for hours in the aisles of Ulta swatching and swiping, just to leave empty handed. One of the most remarkable of these women - in my humble opinion - is the polarizing Jackie Aina. A force within the beauty community, she serves as a beacon of light for many brown and dark skin women whose complaints about makeup equality finally have a platform on which to be heard. In addition to calling upon big businesses to be accountable for their lack of inclusion, she has also got into the weeds herself, working to create multiple products targeted at deep and dark skin women. From brushes to highlighting powders and even foundations, Jackie has always collaborated with brands that are known for quality among their peers, while still affordable enough for us everyday girls to save and buy.

The latest of her collaborations - this time with Anastasia Beverly Hills - is no different. The brand, known for their creative collections and stellar formulas in eyeshadows, eye brow powders and glow products, is also infamous for their limited edition palette releases. In a video released this past weekend, Jackie introduces her very own palette with ABH, and it’s really everything we never knew we needed. Wrapped in a holographic box and covered in rainbow glitter, the palette begs to be opened. Inside, we see an array of some of Jackie’s favorite shades - duochrome green/brown, matte burgundy, pink brown and purple - in addition to some other unexpected, but complementary colors. This palette seems aimed at really warming up the brown face, while being versatile, and complementary to many looks.

I typically gravitate to a more editorial color palette, but being that girl who is usually doing her makeup in the car before work - when I have time to even grab it - I also like to have products that just look good and I don’t have to think too hard about, and I’m hoping that the JA x ABH palette will be that for me. Even if it’s not, it’s always nice to have a product on the market from a company/creator you trust, but is also targeted at your demographic. For even attempting to give us something worthwhile to be enthused about, I’m okay with dropping my coin into Jackie and Norvina (of Anastasia Beverly Hills’) purses.
