Maybe BHM 2019 Wasn't So Bad After All...

Black Twitter seems to agree that this year's Black History Month has been far from the best.

From the high number of fashion lines like Prada and Gucci getting called out for racially insensitive designs to the Jussie Smollett ordeal to whatever is going on in the White House–– most would agree that this month has not brought us the glory of year's past:

However, this year's Black History Month has not been entirely amiss. There were many moments in which Black people shined undeniably.
Here are some of the highlights of 2019's BHM:
1. Alicia Keys' Tribute to Hazel Scott at the Grammy's

3. The Oscars (a magic filled with Black excellence)
There were many historic moments at this year’s Academy Awards. Here are our top 3:
Regina King wins her first Oscar!
Regina received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “If Beale Street Could Talk”
Ruth E. Carter receives an award for Costume Design
Ruth E. Carted made history as the first Black woman to receive an award for costume design for her work in Black Panther.
Hannah Beachler wins an award for Production Design
Hannah Beachler also made history as the first Black woman to e both nominated and awarded the Academy Award for production design for her work in Black Panther.
4. Rico Nasty owning NYFW
This year’s NYFW was filled with Black girl magic in all shapes and sizes. We especially loved watching Rico’s unapologetic strut for Gypsy Sport.
5. New series “Siempre Bruja” premiers on Netflix
Here’s a summary: Carmen is a 19-year-old who is a slave and a witch. She has fallen for a white man, which is a crime that has her scheduled to be burned at the stake. She receives salvation, though, when an old wizard offers her the ability to jump in time to a place where nobody believes in witches. She agrees to not use any of her powers in exchange for the time-traveling, so she is transported to modern-day Colombia. There, she starts a new life, meets new friends and even goes to college. But one constant remains — once a witch, always a witch.
6. H.E.R. ROCKS the GRAMMYs
In addition to being nominated for a whopping five Grammys this year and winning two (Best R&B Album and Best R&B performance, H.E.R put on one of the best performances of the night!
7. Taraji is the star of “What Men Want”
A spin off of Mel Gibson’s “What Women Want,” Ali Davis (Taraji P. Henson) having received the power to hear men’s thoughts is forced to figure out how to navigate a white male dominated work place and her love life simultaneously.
8. Bey and Jay Bow Down to Meghan Markle
This year Beyoncé and hubby Jay-Z won a Brit Award for Best International Group. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to make it to the ceremony. Instead they accepted the award in front a fellow “Melinated Mona,” Duchess Meghan Markle.
9. Diana Ross sparkles at the GRAMMYs
Diana Ross rang in her 75th Birthday with a medley performance of her best hits at this year’s GRAMMYs.
