Spotlight on a Celebrity Makeup Artist: Rebekah Aladdin
During the era where I was first introduced to makeup, my inspiration came from the people around me.
Aunts, older girls, and my mom’s signature red lip gave me my first taste of the beauty in physical adornment. Now, however, girls and women alike have access to instruction and inspiration in beauty, right at their fingertips. With the click of a mouse or a touch of a button, we can learn all the basics of makeup.
This new level of insight and transparency into the cosmetics world is exciting for me, especially because until recent decades, makeup artists were a silent force that were never seen. Now, the powers behind the breathtaking flawlessness of celebrities are shining, and able to give us their personal philosophies on complexion, skin care, eye makeup and more. Being the nerd that I am, I study these people intently and take notes, and enjoy tracking trends within their work. Today, we will take a look at one of my favorites, Rebekah Aladdin, and a trend that I love in her work.

With a client base that includes the likes of brown-skinned beauties Justine Skye, Normani, Lena Waithe, Winnie Harlow, Kiki Layne and Ashley Blaine - Rebekah Aladdin is real life goals! Self-taught and naturally talented, the artist definitely put in the work to master her now infamous “natural glam,” style. Although she is well-known for making women look beautiful in a more natural way, I’ve noticed that she tends to put a lot of focus around her clients’ eyes.
Focusing on the eyes can be a risk, because it takes a measure of skill, a steady hand and restraint, to not mix colors in a muddy mess. To not look like you have a black or blue eye.
