Let's Calm Things Down, Shall We?

Let's Calm Things Down, Shall We?

For this week, I’ve decided to (once again) take things down a notch.

Recently, I’ve been finding myself in a bit of a funk due to my birth control. Instead of laying down and sulking, I invested a bit of time and energy into finding some things that help calm me down. In addition, I feel like everyone should invest in these items because there isn’t a lot of hype surrounding them.

  1. Aromatherapy Diffusers

I have found aromatherapy to be very soothing and helpful in restoring and balancing my energy and mental health. I don’t see a lot of talk or hype about aromatherapy and I think that should be changed. For one, aromatherapy has been known to ease stress and anxiety as well as improve sleep.

Amazon has some really affordable (and cute I might add) aromatherapy diffusers that will not only look really stylish in your room but grant a nice transition into peace of mind during those trying times.

2. Plants

No, not Mary Jane (although use that if it helps), but actual houseplants. I’ve found caring for houseplants to be quite fun and calming. While some people might find this to be boring and a waste of time and money, caring for houseplants is actually very therapeutic.

If you’re a beginner, succulents are definitely the way to start your therapeutic journey. They don’t require a lot of upkeep and look great in any setting. Not to mention, some have very good health benefits (e.g. absorbing toxins from the air). Some great succulents include: Elephant Bush, Jade Plants, and Aloe Vera.

Places like Walmart and Home Depot sell succulents for a relatively cheap price.

3. Sex Toys

Although this might seem like a rather surprising recommendation, masturbation has been known to be a great stress reliever according to Plannedparenthood.org.

If you’re someone like me who gets off on clitoral stimulation, a vibrator is the best way to go. You get to choose your own speed and enjoy the stimulation. Of course, you can use your fingers as well but make sure to WASH YOUR HANDS before you masturbate!

You can find sex toys at your nearby sex shop, online (of course), and if you prefer to find something that is relatively affordable yet highly functional, Spencer’s sells plenty of sex toys ranging from $9-$45.

As always, please take your mental health seriously and do everything in your willpower to try to find things to ease your stress/worries.
