Let's Talk about BDSM: Part 1
For this week’s article, I’m going to take it up a notch with talking about something that I feel should have a greater presence in conversations within the Black community:
BDSM. BDSM, as defined on dictionary.com, is Bondage, Dominance/Discipline, Submission/Sadism and Masochism.
Although it’s pretty apparent that we like to talk about our likes and dislikes with sex, I feel like there is seldom talk about BDSM—aside from what we see in porn and Rihanna’s “S&M”. Besides the whole “I love being tied up and whipped” shebang, I feel that Black people are very unaware about the different kinds of kinks and fetishes that they are/could be into. There’s way more to being choked and tied up that I feel we should be more informed about.
Over the past week, I had a few friends take a little fun test called the BDSM Test and (with their permission) send me their results. The purpose was to see if they knew or even heard of any of the kinks that appeared in their results. Out of the three people I asked, only one knew all of the meanings of the BDSM kinks.
The BDSM Test is a questionnaire that asks questions pertaining to one’s particular sexual likes and dislikes. The BDSM Test takes about 15 minutes to finish and the results will AMAZE you! You’ll learn more about what your kinks are as well as kinks you’ve never even heard of!
I truly encourage everyone to take this test at least once in their life to understand their kinks—even if you’re unaware of what they are—to the fullest extent! In my opinion, I think the BDSM Test is great way for people to understand and learn about some of the most popular and interesting kinks.
