5 Hairstyles To Try This Festival Season
Festival season has arrived which means you have more opportunities to try the hairstyles that you have been eyeing since your hair grew back.
You see the best thing about being a black girl is our hair and it’s ability to be manipulated into any type of hair style. We can twist it, cut it, braid it, weave it to achieve it or we can simply pull it into the perfect ponytail fit for any occasion, day or night. So now that it is festival season and your wardrobe is changing you definitely want a hairstyle that will complement your style.

Goddess Locs
These long, beautiful, dread like braids with sparsely placed curls are simply gorgeous. These type of faux locs are a modern spin on a classic dreads that has so much history behind them. When you are rocking these locs you know that you are pretty much good to go anywhere rather it be a midday festival, late night boat cruise or a Sunday Funday farmer’s market. They are truly perfect.
Now the only downfall about wearing these is that they may come loose and you better make sure you run to the nearest bathroom to put it back in. Trust me, I have learned how to redo braids or sew-in hair extensions and even glue a track back on when I am on the go.
Buzz It
There is something oddly freeing and self-reflecting when I see a woman with a shaved head. You can tell that she has started to glow within by freeing up any mental and physical blocks that once existed and has now cleared into the land of ‘No More’. The shaved head complements her personal style, confidence and overall aura.
A shaved head can be so simple to achieve either by yourself if you have clippers or go to your local barbershop and ask him for a #1 all over. (FYI, a #1 is a clipper guard that is ¼ of an inch). Rock this buzz cut with your natural hair color or spice it up with a color of your choosing. Either way you will love the way your head feels and rain will never mess up another hair style.
Lace Front
Dude, when I tell you that lace fronts were not popular when I wore sew-in hair extensions in the early 2000’s and now these full units are taking over everyone’s closet, I am truly jaw dropping amazed. And yes, I said closet. Ladies are hanging their lace front units in a closet that is specifically for their hair. With so many styles that range from short to long and extremely long any look can be achieved.
The thing to keep in mind about lace fronts are that they are an investment so be sure to choose the best ones for your budget. Don’t forget to keep a little glue in your bag.
Au Naturale
You can never go wrong with a natural look. Whether it’s a quick wash and go, a pristine twist/braid/bantu-knot out. Your locks are perfect as they are.
However, we know that natural hair can require a whole lot of upkeep. So, you can always opt for a cute pin up style like that above!
Passion Twists
Passion twists are all the rave this summer. A slight summery twist (pun-intended) on traditional marley/senegalese twists will bring you a glow like no other.
There is no limit to the amount of hair styles that you can wear this festival season.
Rather you want to rock a short cut, bohemian type of style or full on unit, you can definitely do it. Oh and btw, Essence Music Festival has just come to an end and you’ve got to see some of the hairstyles I was peeping from their hashtag #essencefestival2019.
