Plaid. The Classic Print Everyone Is Wearing This Season
Humble, tartan plaid doesn’t frequent every runway or even every boutique window, but as the seasons change the beloved print just starts popping up everywhere. On daytime TV Wendy Williams can be seen wearing it as well as the hosts themselves of “Strahan, Sara, and Keke”. Sara wore a full suit - blazer and slack - in the classic print. t’s just everywhere! And I couldn’t be more thrilled.
They say fashion and trends repeat themselves, and if you live long enough, those words prove themselves true. As we see the trends of our childhood become the hottest new styles as an adult, we shake our head, not in disbelief but because we wonder if the back of our closets still holds a few pieces from our teenage wardrobe. Not that I’m old, but I’ve lived long enough to see my beloved 90s be reincarnated and rebooted more times than even I would like. Look at Rihanna’s fashion and the Instagram Ad featuring Celine Dion. Out of all the recycled trends and phases out there, there’s none quite like the annual reincarnation of tartan print.
My relationship with tartan plaid got its roots from Gwen Stefani and the emo scene obsession. Gwen loves her tartan and Vivienne Westwood - she really wears it the best. I picked up one of my favorite pieces in the pattern some years ago at a thrift store that was full of discarded plaids. Now if you’d rather not hit up the thrift store such as I did, designers are continuously finding new ways to get us to buy more tartan. Now before you go on a plaid shopping haul, check your closet. You may have a few pieces in there. If not, let’s take a look at what’s out there and see if, by chance, we can make an excuse for copping something
SHIRTS/TOPS
PANTS/BOTTOMS
COATS/JACKETS

There are so many other cool options out there, many out of my price range or in boutiques and thrift shops. Tartan can be found all around when you look.
